PSS Safety helmet.
Applications
Remote assistance for interventions in high-risk environments.
Value
Increasing the safety of those working in high-density radiation environments.
Technology
Zigbee, Embedded Linux, Wireless transmission, VoIP.
- Radiation
- Toxic gases
- Electric shocks
Problem
Technicians who work in high-risk environments such as CERN's ATLAS particle detector are exposed to radiation, toxic gases, electric shocks, etc.
The time available for each of their tasks is limited: it must end when they reach
the maximum allowable level of radiation exposure and stress tolerance.
Solution
The PSS Personal Safety System, is a battery-operated kit weighing only 300 grams that can be mounted on a safety helmet.
Equipped with a camera, it collects data from a dosimeter that records the level of radiation absorbed and transmits it to the remote control center; it has a cable for earphones and a button to connect by video call with assistance.
The assistant, thanks to the video shot by the camera, can see, monitor, record the technician's activity, guide and help him. Through the dosimeter he can check vital critical parameters such as the level of radiation absorption and, when the maximum limit is reached, alert the operator.
A battery-powered Wi-Fi access point provides a stable connection even in harsh conditions.
