SEM - SMART ELECTRIC MOTOR.

Smart Electric Motor: Intelligent Motor Group for machinery in hazardous environments

Applications

Control of electric motors for machinery in potentially explosive atmospheres

Value

Ensuring maximum operational safety along with optimizing operating costs and predictive maintenance

Technology

Embedded system with real-time operating system and built-in IoT connectivity

Problem

Machinery used in industrial processes such as flexographic printing, laminating and other processing in flexible packaging must operate in environments classified as hazardous.

These systems require high precision in the handling of mechanical components, as well as great reliability and ease of maintenance.

Solution

The SEM motor unit is designed to be integrated directly inside flexographic printing machinery certified ATEX zone 2 gas group IIB, temperature class T4 ( 0°C ≤ Tamb ≤ +45°C ).

It includes an 80Vdc 8A stepper motor with encoder feedback, a driver for control, a Bluetooth/wireless module for remote diagnostics and maintenance, and an enclosure with forced pressurization for ventilation.

The device is fully integrated into the machinery and has sophisticated firmware functionality for collecting operational data, which is useful for preemptively diagnosing faults, performing remote checks, and updating firmware. Field maintenance is quick and easy thanks to the ability to quickly disassemble the motor assembly, thus reducing operating costs and increasing overall reliability.

S&H oversaw the entire product development cycle, from definition and ideation to hardware and software design, prototyping and production.
