ThermoBag.

Rapid defroster for plasma bags.

Applications

Hospital laboratories.

Value

Enable laboratory technicians to thaw plasma bags in reduced time and maximum safety.

Technology

Embedded Linux; PID controller; wireless remote control.

Problem

Thawing plasma bags requires a great deal of time and constant temperature control to avoid inadvertent tampering with parameters and subsequent criticality.

Solution

Thermobag thaws up to four 700-mL plasma bags at a constant temperature of 37°, reducing process time by as much as 25 minutes.
The system, with a preset temperature that cannot be changed, has a centrifugal pump that moves water inside the tank to keep heat constant and homogeneous and speed thawing time.
A 7″ touch screen monitor shows the progress of the process.
Audible alarms signal any system anomalies as well as a sudden rise in temperature. Thermobag is equipped with a U.V. sterilization system to prevent mold growth in the heating circuit.

Thermobag is certified in accordance with EN 60601-1:1998; 2004/108/EC EN60601-1-2:2003 and 93/42/EEC.

The plasma bag thawer was produced in collaboration with theState University of Milan, Department of Biology. S&h was responsible for the definition and design of the device, development, prototyping, certification, production, and after-sales service.
